Exfoliation is an important part of
skincare routines. Unfortunately, some of us don’t do it often enough, and some
of us do it too often! Here are some tips for facial exfoliation to maintain healthy skin with a lovely glow!
First, what is exfoliation?
Exfoliation is simply the removal of dead
cells on your skin’s surface. This can be done at home with facial scrubs and
loofahs, or it can be done at medical spas with
microdermabrasion and chemical peels.
Why is exfoliating good for skin?
With age, the process of cell regeneration
slows down. When this happens, dead skin
cells begin to build up, leaving your skin feeling rough and uneven. Dead skin cells can also result in excess oil and clogged pores,
leading to blemishes and acne.
What does exfoliating do?
Exfoliating rids your skin of dead skin
cells and clears your pores of bacteria and sebum.
How do I know if I’m exfoliating enough or too much?
You should exfoliate once or twice a week
depending on the sensitivity of your skin. If you find that frequent exfoliation makes you more prone to breakouts,
cut back to once a week.
