New Year's Resolutions for Better Skin in 2018

How would you rate your happiness with your skin this year? If your complexion has been less-than-perfect, it’s time to adopt some new, healthy habits for better skin in the New Year. Establishing good skincare habits now will ensure beautiful skin for years to come. Follow these New Year’s Resolutions for beautiful, healthy skin in 2018.

1. Adopt a Nightly Routine

It’s the #1 rule of skincare: wash your face before bed! Leaving the day’s dirt, makeup, and pollution on your skin overnight can cause a skin care disaster. It’s also incredibly important to apply a moisturizer nightly, as the skin loses hydrated overnight.

Too tired to bother with skincare before bed? At the very least, keep disposable makeup wipes and a moisturizer on your nightstand so you’ll have no excuses to remove your makeup and hydrate skin before bed. If you have dry skin, try a cream-based moisturizer like Herbacin Night Cream. For oily skin types, use a serum like Herbacin Anti-Age Serum.

2. Sleep 7+ Hours Every Night

Speaking of sleep, are you getting enough rest each night? If not, you may want to start. Research has linked sleep deprivation with accelerated aging and a reduced ability for skin to heal after sun damage. Our body’s cells repair themselves while we sleep, so if you’re not getting enough Zzz’s at night, your body’s ability to recover is impaired. Aim for at least 7 hours every night for better skin in the new year.

3. Wear Sunscreen Every. Single. Day.

You’ve heard this a million times, but the sun does not play well with skin. To prevent premature aging and skin cancer, apply a sunscreen with 30+ SPF every single morning, even if the weather is cloudy or raining. When spending a lot of time outdoors, frequently reapply sunscreen and wear a hat.

4. Change Your Pillowcases

Did you know you should be changing your pillowcase twice per week? Bacteria on pillowcases can lead to breakouts. Say goodbye to zits by swapping out your sheets more often.

5. Toss Your Old Products

Just like the food in your fridge, your beauty products have an expiration date. When beauty products expire, they no longer work as effectively. In some cases, they can also become contaminated, causing skin irritation and breakouts. Cleansers, moisturizers, lip balms, and lotions should all be tossed a year after opening.

6. Invest in an Eye Cream

If you’re not already using an eye cream, now is the time to start. Eye creams and serums are designed specifically to hydrate and repair the delicate skin around the eyes, which is more prone to developing fine lines and wrinkles. Using your ring finger, gently dab an eye cream like Herbacin Eye Cream below and around the eye area before bed to keep eyes bright and youthful.

7. Take Your Vitamins

Even if you eat a healthy diet, you may be missing some vitamins and minerals necessary for skin health. To fill in the gaps, take a multivitamin each day.

8. Stop Touching Your Face

We’re sure you’ve heard not to pop pimples. Not only can picking cause scarring, but the bacteria from your fingers can also lead to infections.

Touching your face throughout the day can also lead to breakouts. However, since it’s usually an unconscious habit, break the habit is easier said than done. To help, add a sticky note to your desk or rear view mirror to remind you to keep your fingers away from your skin!
